I know I’m stating the obvious here, but can you imagine how many problems we could solve if our leaders stopped starting misguided wars and handing money over to the ultra-rich through our tax system? Honestly, for everyone who claims America has too much debt, where do you think most of that debt comes from? It’s not from the modest help we provide to the poor — that assistance actually pays for itself. It’s a bloated and misused military and tax breaks for those who already possess too much of our country’s wealth.
I’m sick of it!
Medicare for All would pay for itself. Housing assistance reduces costly homelessness and keeps children from experiencing the trauma of not knowing where their family will settle down. Food assistance feeds the hungry, including children who need nourishment for healthy development.
On the other hand, poverty makes people sick, poisons brains — which keeps them swimming in unhealthy chemicals — and shortens lifespans.
Decades ago, our tax system was designed to keep too much of our country’s resources from flowing up to the top. That, along with affordable college and housing programs, helped create a vibrant middle class with good-paying jobs.
And, unfortunately, for far too long, Congress has abdicated its role in deciding whether our country goes to war or not. Presidents (like Trump) have used war as a costly distraction, and greedy defense contractors have sold our military too much and outdated equipment because of multi-year contracts that give them too much power.
Sorry for the obvious and seemingly rambling rant. But the dots need to be connected. We starve our government of resources, which could do great and productive things. But no, let’s start a war and make the rich richer.
Again, I’m so sick of it!
Let’s be that country that solves problems instead of creating them.
