Happy Birthday to me and an Icelandic boy!

True story: I was just at Egilsstaðir’s geothermal swimming pool. I was in the locker room, changing clothes with a bunch of young boys who were telling another boy, “You don’t care about your birthday, do you?” (Why these Icelandic boys were speaking English, I don’t know.) After the boy agreed, “No, I don’t care about my birthday,” I said, “Hey, it’s my birthday. I like it!” The birthday boy asked me my name. After I replied, “Michael,” they all sang “Happy Birthday” in Icelandic to me. The two chaperones looked at me, nodded, and smiled.

AND just a reminder to family, friends, and colleagues: today is my birthday. And I know the perfect gift you can get me. As with last year, I want to spread snazziness on my b-day. So, I’m asking you to help me out and express gratitude to someone. Tell them why they are special to you, a fun memory you have of them, something they once did that really helped you out, or whatever else you think your target of gratitude should hear. So, there you have it — express gratitude and stay snazzy!
